Cyntia Links

You pay for the link, not for the traffic.

Links turns a long address into a short one on stl.lat: it can be printed, read out on a call or sent a hundred thousand times, and every click through it is counted. It is charged per link minted, not per click, so nothing about the price asks you to share it less. It works on its own, and Workflow can mint one per case without anybody opening it.

What happens after you mint one

The short link is the only thing here that did not exist before: the long address was already yours and the clicks are somebody else's. What the link adds is that all of them go through the same place — which is the only reason any of them can be counted.

  • A person or a process mints it; it costs the same
  • Every click goes through here, so every click is counted
  • And the count comes back to whoever minted it

The address on the flyer is already printed

The address was the link

Somebody put the full address on a flyer, a label or a card. Six months later the page moves, the campaign ends or the site is rebuilt, and every one of those printed addresses now leads nowhere. Nothing can be done about it because the paper is the link.

The link points at the address

The short link is what is printed, and where it goes is a setting. The page moves and you change the destination; the flyer keeps working, and you find out how many people still read it.

Whoever mints it, it is the same link

A link can be minted by hand, by a process that reached the step where it needs one, or by your own code. The integration with Workflow is native, so a process can mint one per case — a different link for every file — without anybody opening anything.

Charging per link and not per click is what makes minting one per case affordable. If every click had a price, nobody would put a link on the thing that gets sent to everybody.

What Links is made of

Very little, and on purpose: a shortener that needs a manual is a shortener nobody uses.

  • 01

    The short link

Minted once and yours from then on. It is what gets printed, said out loud or sent, and it is the unit that gets charged.

  • 02

    The destination

Where it points, and it can change without the link changing. That is the whole reason a printed link stops being a liability.

  • 03

    Clicks

How many, and when. Every click goes through the same place, so the count is not an estimate.

  • 04

    The API

So a process can mint one per case. It is the same link a person would have minted, and it costs the same.
